The
mysterious city of Fez fascinates by strongly
reflecting the essential periods of Moroccan history.
Fez is Morocco's oldest imperial city, with a
cultural and spiritual influence through the past
and present that have made it one of the capitals
of Islamic civilisation.
Fez
holds the richest and most remarkable architecture
of Morocco. At the same time, Fez is discrete;
to discover its secrets, you'll need to take your
time.
You
will be amazed by the complexity of the architecture
of the Riads and the numerous narrow streets that
create a labyrinth of Fez's medina, classified
in 1978 as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Fourteen
kilometres of ochre and sand coloured walls run
around the medina of Fez. The Rif Valley and the
Middle Atlas regions surround the city.
Riad
al Bartal, which means the house of Fez, is a
magical refuge one block from a main entrance
to the medina. The central patio, illuminated
by the sun, contrasts with the soft lights of
the rooms, where one finds detailed zelliges,
polished marble, delicious scents of cedar, red
and gold of lacquered woods, all inviting you
to rest, relax and let things go.
